Dorothy Mae Kim
Dorothy Mae Kim, age 73, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away on July 28, 2026. Born on November 22, 1952, in Seoul, South Korea, she immigrated to the United States in 1975 and made Gainesville her beloved home.
Dorothy earned her Master's degree in Education from the University of Georgia and dedicated 30 years to teaching English Literature at Gainesville High School. She was named Teacher of the Year three times and was beloved by generations of students who credit her with instilling in them a love of reading and writing.
She was an active member of the Korean-American Community Association of Northeast Georgia and volunteered regularly at the local food bank. She enjoyed watercolor painting, tending her rose garden, and hosting elaborate dinner parties for friends and family.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Samuel Kim; her children, Jennifer Kim-Park (Andrew) and Christopher Kim (Lisa); and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Service Information
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home, 234 Main Street, Gainesville, GA 30501. A reception will follow in the funeral home's gathering room. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gainesville High School Scholarship Fund in Dorothy's name.
