William Thomas Brooks

William Thomas Brooks, age 93, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his family homestead on July 20, 2026. Born on February 8, 1933, in Hall County, he was the son of the late Thomas and Edna (née Payne) Brooks.

William was a third-generation farmer who cultivated the same land his grandfather first broke in 1901. He was a founding member of the Hall County Farm Bureau and served as its president for 15 years. His farm was recognized by the Georgia Department of Agriculture as a Century Farm in 2001.

A man of deep faith, William was a lifelong member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 40 years. He loved hunting, fishing, and telling stories on the front porch to anyone who would listen.

He is survived by his children, Billy Brooks Jr. (Nancy), Carol Ann Simmons (Gary), and Roy Brooks (Diane); eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Ruth Ann Brooks, and his son, Danny Brooks.

Service Information

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 5678 Mount Zion Road, Gainesville, GA 30507. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home.
